How important is it to stay connected in our new virtual world?
“I think for all of us, this period has made us realise how much we value our relationships – our family and our friends. I don’t think we will ever take a hug or a kiss for granted again – and truly, this has reminded me that in life, the simple things really are the most precious. So many of us find happiness in material things, but I think this time has made so many of us realise that what brings us happiness is not ‘stuff’, it’s our relationships. I miss the face to face contact with loved ones, but at the same time, feel very grateful to have my little family with me – we’re taking care of each other. We have moments of driving each other utterly insane (hello husband!) but also lovely moments where my heart feels like it could explode.”
"We're becoming more grateful for what we have and what our bodies can do"

"Being kind to yourself should always be high on the priority list"
How do you take care?
Learning to wind down has been a bit of a journey for me. Usually I’m always on the go with back to back jobs and put a fair bit of pressure on myself to achieve or be working towards some sort of goal... which leaves you pretty burnt out. So at the start of the year, I decided to try actively taking time out for myself to do things I enjoy. These had to be things that I couldn’t measure with levels of success, just activities that made me happy and relaxed. Reading has been a huge help, as well as walking, podcasts, sitting quietly with a face mask and just being in the moment. I think it’s so important we are kinder to ourselves and make these little rituals a part of life for our overall health and wellbeing. It may seem simple but like anything, it takes practice.

"Simply breathing with meditation, I instantly feel like I can take on the world"
How do juggle motherhood, work and having time for yourself?
It’s no secret that my meditation and yoga have been very sacred the past couple of years due to zero time and wanting to keep the little energy I have all to myself. And I’d like to say I meditate daily however it’s not realistic with a 5 month old baby and toddler. So I keep it simple 3 - 4 times a week and I urge you to do the same. Especially during these uncertain times. Start with 5 minutes and build up to what works with you and your family. Once I finish my simply breathing and meditation I instantly feel like I can take on the world - well at least fold the piles of washing that I’ve been putting off.
Join Gabriella as she shows you a quick tip on a simple, but effective breathing exercise to start your morning fresh or take a break during your day.
"I find I am most productive & creative, when surrounded by the things that I love"
How do you balance your work / home life when the two seem to be blurring into one?
I always try to create a space that inspires me at every turn, be that filled with flowers or a favourite fragrance as well as visual cues to inspire me. I have learnt that creating work/life balance is a total essential, this can sometimes be tricky when working from my studio at home but is a must. I make myself get dressed, put on some makeup and have dedicated work time and then be sure to 'clock off' work in the late afternoon to spend time with my family, without doing this work can sometimes seem a little overwhelming!
Surround yourself with things that you love! I am constantly changing up my styling and mood boards around my desk. I personally live by the more is more approach when finding inspiration with the things I surround myself with. I love always having a fresh element be it a vase of flowers or a plant as well as a scent I love, candles are my favourite! Click to discover all of Kara's tips and tricks for an inspiring space.
