Why not 100% natural ingredients?
More than 95% of the active ingredients used in our product formulas are of natural origin. The rest are biodegradable synthetic ingredients, only used when needed for safety or sensorial reasons, or for the effectiveness of products. We do our utmost to use natural ingredients and naturally-derived ingredients in order to deliver the most natural skincare products and makeup products. Where do the active plant ingredients in Clarins products come from?
When it comes to sourcing our ingredients, we prefer traceable ingredients from sustainable sources. As a bare minimum, we give priority to extracts from certified organically-grown plants or their certified-organic extracts. This helps us formulate the cleanest beauty products possible. When ingredients aren’t organically farmed or certified organic, we work with our suppliers to help them move towards organic methods.
We primarily source our plant-based and natural ingredients from France, then Europe. When we aren’t able to find the best active ingredients required by our phytochemists here, we look farther afield. Sourcing certain ingredients from countries with a low Human Development Index means we can support Fair Trade programs worldwide, encouraging local populations to develop their know-how and economy, while respecting their ecosystems.
